Did you wives insist on features you claim you can't live without? Did you husbands put your foot down on which features your RV should have and what you do without?

The reason I asked is a buddy of mine just bought a TT. But before he could buy this particular TT, his wife insisted on conditions like having a 'fully functional kitchen.' Thankfully, they reached a compromise. In my case, my wife left the decision entirely to me. All she wanted was a decent shower and an antenna so she could watch her favorite TV shows wherever we are.

The dealer that we've been talking to suggested for us to get two additional products along with it. The first is Crystal Fusion, which is supposed to be a windshield strengthener and protector. The second is Paint, Fabric & Leather, which is supposed to be a protector of these stuff. Both, he says, have a guarantee for five years. Tempting, until I found out the prices. The Crystal Fusion will be an additional $1000 while the Paint, Fabric & Leather will be about $3000.

Many sales agents would tell you that you don't need to get a special license to drive them, especially Class A Motorhomes. DON'T BELIEVE THEM! My friend learned this lesson the hard way. Driving rules and policies differ from one state to another. Many nowadays require you to get a special non-commercial license in order to drive one of these babies. These licenses are structured around the federal classifications for weight, and what you will be towing. If you are stopped by a police officer or get into an accident, and you don't have this special license with you, not only will you find yourself having to pay a hefty fine. It will also give your insurance company a reason to drop you, and it will be very difficult to get coverage from another.

He like the simplicity of the Motorhome, but he found the price a little bit too expensive.

Any suggestions for class B Motorhomes other than Roadtrek I could suggest to him? He's looking for one under $40,000 and could sleep about 4-5 people comfortably with a shower.

Simply look for the EverGreen rating. TRA, an environmental certification company, ensures that the materials and components that go into RV's and trailers are 'green'. RV's and trailers that meet TRA's stringent criteria are awarded a rating: Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Emerald, with Emerald being the most environmentally friendly.

Nothing but trouble, generator won't stay running, poor gas flow to unit, jacks - front and back won't go up and down, leak in bedroom, moulding falling off, keys don't work in door, underbelly falling off, spare tire falling off, refrig. door does not stay closed, stove igniter does not work, cracks in Coraian counter - told by Keystone customer service we probably made them and at that point had not used it once.

This is just a sampling of it.

They won't stand behind the warranty.

Treated very poorly by Keystone rep. on many calls to get help.

We've used it 9 times and most of them weekends.

DO NOT BUY FROM KEYSTONE. DO NOT BUY FROM KEYSTONE.

Wish we had bought from Heartland.

We will possibly be stopping in Phoenix or El Paso on the way. Are there any dealers to stop and look at or to stay away from? Yes I know PPL Motorhomes is in Houston they are also having a sale next week but if we can find one that is a good deal without going all that way then we will buy somewhere else. (thou I have a feeling that we will be buying there)

Looking to buy a gas or diesel Class A it all depends on the floorplan and deal. We have looked at lots already and walked thru them. There are several floorplans that we would go with and several not. The RV will be for full timing. We already are pre approved for a certain price with my credit union.

If you're planning to buy an RV, don't make the mistake of getting an Earthbound Golden Ridge RV of any year and model, used or brand new!!! It's nothing but trouble.

My brother bought a brand new Earthbound Golden Ridge back in August last year. After just having it for a few weeks, he had to bring it to the dealer over and over again to have a host of things fixed: AC unit was replaced, axles were replaced, the flooring, the walls, you name it, they had a problem with it. The worse part of it? The supposed 3-year bumper to hitch warranty that they have is worthless. They come up with a lot of excuses so that they won't honor it. In effect, my brother not only ended up paying for every freaking repair (the bill is enough to buy him another RV), but still haven't been able to really take it out with us camping, which is more frustrating.

Now, we're consulting a with a lawyer to sue Earthbound for this hunk of junk, and that means more money to pay. Hopefully, he can get a settlement on this. If not for all the expenses including the lawyer fees and stuff, at least the amount that he paid for all the repairs since the RV is, after all, within the scope of the warranty.

Free RV Giveaway

Bish's RV in Idaho is giving away a free RV this week (September 13th - September 18th, 2010) in their RV Challenge.

Try to purchase an RV with a shower large enough for your comfort. When purchasing a used RV always make sure the plumbing has not been frozen and there’s no water leaks and the toilet and all faucets work. Make sure the hot water heater works, furnace heating unit, all air conditioners, and slide outs if they have any. If it is a motor home check to see if the leveling jacks work if they have any.
