Thing is, my friend is coming back home and invited me and a couple of others to go tent camping like the good ol' days two weekends from now. We've been itching to get out and have been thinking about tent camping again. It's been quite a while, after all. We've been scouring for some lightweight tents, and we came across some lightweight popup tents. They look quite easy to set up, which is a good thing for us since we haven't done this in a long time. But of course, looks can be deceiving.

Has anyone tried using one of these? Are they really as easy to set up and pack again as they all claim?

It will be me, my wife, and three small kids. From the looks of things, we're going to do this now during the spring and during the fall. I don't think that the kids will be able to handle the heat during the summer.

From the looks of things, we might need a cabin style tent to meet our needs. Most of those that I've found are either nylon or canvas. Which would be the best material and can you suggest any tents?

I got my old tent which has always been a favorite since it's nice and big. Haven't gotten around to use it for about a year since we got our trailer. It was raining while I was camping, and I noticed that the tent is leaking on the sides. With all the household expenses rising, I'd want to deal with this the most affordable and practical way possible. That being said, is it possible to salvage this tent and fix this, or is buying a new tent the only option for this?

Since many of the places we're going to stay are pretty much new to us, one of my friends was thinking that it might be a lot safer if we sleep in a tent truck rather than on the ground. Of course, if we rent one for the trip, it's going to cost us more money than just taking our tents and pitching them. Has anyone tried using truck tents? Feedback is highly appreciated.

Why Do You Tent Camp?

Hey guys, just wanted to get some feedback from my fellow campers.

So why do you do it?

- I do it to keep my families traditions alive, to remember my father, and show the universe that I am grateful for my place in it.

How bout you?

Here are a few tips to keep warm and comfortable when tent camping in the fall:

- Bring more clothes than you think you'll need

- Make sure you have enough firewood

- Make sure you have a properly rated sleeping bag

There are 4 of us 2 couples, so we prefer to have 2 tents. Our price range is around $250-$300 per a tent.

Rainproof is a must because we tend to use it again maybe during next summer =)

Double Doors is also a must, if I wanted to sneak out to scare my girlfriend in the middle of the night I can =p

Tents with Interior storage is a plus.

Height of the tents don't really matter but I need to be able to sit down inside it!

Please recommend me some brands! Thank you!

Pop-up tents vs dome tents

Hello everyone,

I am looking to buy my first (3-man) tent, which I intend to use in a variety of situations: festivals/mountain/beach. I am undecided between the said two category of tents: dome and pop-up.

I am tempted by the easy set-up of pop-up tents, but I hear that most of them are single-skinned and so they don't prevent condensation from forming on the inside of the tent, when it gets cold outside. Aside from this, I assume they are just as stable in the face of winds as dome tents are.

Could anyone who has experienced both types of tent share which would be the pros and cons of each? Many thanks in advance for any replies!
