If yes, what measures/precautions do you take to make sure your pet stays safe and doesn't disturb other campers? I ask because I just got a new canine friend. He's housebroken and all, but he gets easily distracted and is a bit spoiled by his previous owner. I want to take him camping one day, but I'm not sure how I'll deal with it if he misbehaves or causes trouble while we're camping.

Getting Teens to Go Camping

I recently came across this article here about getting your teens to go camping. While my kids are quite young, it dawned on me just how much how things have changed. I remember when I was a teen, going camping was something that was a part of growing up. Nowadays, it's like something that parents have to take an extra effort now to get their kids to do.

Any parents here feel the same way?

Too much of a handful?

A friend of mine and his wife just had a baby this month, and judging from the way he's been talking, it looks like he's really itching to get out again. He's planning taking his family on a trip this coming July, when the baby is about four months old. His wife is not really too keen about the idea, especially since they also got four year old twins. She told us her biggest concern is that they will end up being a handful, and that their camping neighbors will find them to be a nuisance. Our youngest was 3 years old when I took her with us camping.

Any advice on camping with infants and really young kids I can pass on to my friend will be a big help.

Looking for information on Military Campgrounds

I'm looking for information on Military Campgrounds to stay at with my family.

I'm wondering, do you have to be related to someone in the military to stay at a military campground?

What are military campgrounds like? Are they usually in better or worse condition than private campgrounds?

Are military campgrounds a good place for kids?

Would appreciate any and all answers. She's great, sweet and an avid RVer and hiker. I would really want to get her something that she would enjoy whenever she goes camping. The thing is, I don't really know what to get her. Quite honest, she's got more fancy camping stuff than me and my wife, and her gifts to us have been really great. I'd like to say yes, but I don't have any experience on bringing other kids with us during our camping trip without their parents. With so many things that can happen, the last thing that I want are angry parents blaming me and my son for putting their kid in a dangerous situation. Has anyone been through this? This is to give a chance for me to teach my kids some wilderness survival techniques that they can use in case of emergencies. So far, I've managed to teach them how to choose the right wood for the fire, use a whistle when they are lost and cooking their own food over a campfire. We're still in the process of learning about pitching a tent, but we're getting there.

How about you guys? At what age did you start teaching your kids wilderness survival stuff? What have you taught them so far?

Home Camping Anyone?

Since our kids are still in school, we would usually plan our camping trips during their school breaks. Since my boys are growing real fast and have reached that age when they're a bit more adventurous, I decided to come up with a new tradition for our family. While school is open, we would have a home camping weekend in our backyard once a month. I'd take out our tent, pitch it up in the background, create a place where we can have a bonfire, hang out, cook our food and then sleep out. Not only do we get our camping fix. But we also take that time to try out the nifty little camping gadgets that we buy for our upcoming trips. But I guess the best part of it is the fact that it gives me and the boys a chance to bond, something that is definitely priceless.

Best Mosquito Repellants

With the news of those mosquitoes with the West Nile Virus among other things, I'm wondering what mosquito repellant do you use whenever you go camping/RVing? My kids love to camp regardless of the location. Another idea is indoor camping as a family night actvity. Setting up a tent in your living room and eating hot dogs and s'mores is a fun family night activity, especially if the weather does not permit you to go to the campgrounds. Of course, if I have my choice, I would always be at a real campgrounds, even if only for a couple nights!

lake george camping

I posed the question on Maryland camping and I thank you for the replies. I have a new question for the Lake George area. Has anyone stayed at 'Lake George Camping Resort'? Yes I have read the reviews but there is to much 'he said, she said' to get a good idea. I'm hoping to get real opinions from serious campers because the reviews that the Wi Fi does not work are useless to me. I'm looking for electric is good, showers are clean, campsites are spacious and clean, good activities for kids(minor). I know it's a lot to ask but I was under the impression that the reviews were to help you as a potential visitor to a campground.

If this sounds like a ('Bit**h'), I do apologize.
