We decided to stay at Jazante RV Park. We already paid for a month's stay when we were told that on top of that, we need to provide them with an application form and then have to pass a background AND credit check!!! My mouth fell. We have been camping for years, and never have we been asked any of that sort of thing just to stay in a campground. Thankfully, we were able to get our money back (not without a fight though).

I'm really hoping that this isn't true. After all, just how much smoke comes from fire pits in these beaches and campgrounds anyway? Still, it would be great if anyone can shed some light on this.

Thanks!

A great campground. I don't know why they asked to be pulled from this site but I have my suspicions. The staff overall is friendly and helpful but the senior management is rude and talks down to residents, threatening and condescending. Too bad since everything else about this camp is awesome.

Storm Watching in the Pacific Northwest

My friend Timothy recently wrote an article on the best places to watch storms in the Pacific Northwest (http://www.campingroadtrip.com/tips-and-articles/storm-watching-in-the-pacific-northwest).

I remember a couple of years ago being in Austin and watching a monster thunderstorm from Lake Austin.

Do any of you guys know any great places to watch storms in the West? Does his article make you want to go try some of his destinations?

But at a pretty steep cost. We traveled its lenght, about 30 miles, with our dually and Jayco Eagle. They catch your license plate and bill you later. Total for the trip was around $30. Having used it several times to get to DIA in cars, I knew it wasn't cheap. but a buck a mile with the trailer?

KOA in Spokane Valley, Washington is a NIGHTMARE

They do not tell you that a train track runs alongside the campground. The tracks are hidden in overgrown weeds, no more than 30 feet from the tent sites. But at 1 or 2 am, you will find out the hard way. It sounded like the train was going to crash through our tent, with the train horn nearly giving us a heart attack. Then again at 3 am, and 5 am. In the morning, we wanted a refund or at least an explanation. But the manager stood there like a dummy shrugging his shoulders and telling us he couldn't do anything about it. Horrible campground with no-class management. Avoid this place at all costs.

Camping in Las Vegas

Hey guys,

I am planning a road trip with my RV for the spring, and we will probably stop a couple nights near Las Vegas, but once I park my RV to the campground, how can I reach the city, does anyone know if there is like shuttles or buses going around the places so we could reach the city an easier way?

On September 29th, the OSPRC voted to increase the day-use fee from $3 to $5 per vehicle. Campsite rates will increase by $4 per night for RVs and $3 per night for tent campers. The fee hike goes into effect May 1, 2010, and will impact the millions of campers who visit Oregon's state parks every year.

Campers and RVers seem to agree that the fee increase is acceptable as long as it leads to genuine improvements in campground maintenance and services.
