Backcountry tent campsites
All free of charge and on a first-come/first-serve basis, there are 14 different primitive tent campgrounds parkwide, each with individual campsites and an outhouse. Within those campgrounds are 105 primitive backcountry tent campsites, 99 of which have firerings. The 6 campsites at Raven Point on the Fiery Gizzard Trail allow no open campfires. One hundred of those campsites can accommodate up to 8 people each, and 5 are large group campsites. Hiking distances range from 120 yards to 15 miles. Naturally occurring water sources are rainfall dependent from streams and springs which must be treated, filtered, or boiled for potability. Calling ahead for a status report is recommended. City water is available from spigots located only in campgrounds nearest trail entrances within the first half-mile.
