Most accessible campground in Joshua Tree NP
Sarah Partridge
Silver
May 16, 2014
What we like most about the Black Rock campground is it's the most accessible in Joshua Tree NP. It's only 6mi away from the west entrance and is close to the trailheads of the best hiking trails in the park. The campground itself is clean and has modern restrooms but no showers or hookups. However, it does have a dump station and a fresh water source. Our stay at this campground was pleasant and fun, except for a couple of irritants: the sites are not level and are too close together, and the roads are bumpy and in bad condition. Otherwise, it's a great campground.

We stayed here in a Travel Trailer.

Best campground for big RVs in Joshua Tree

Unlike most campgrounds in Joshua Tree, this campground is the only one we found suitable for long RVs. While it doesn't have hookups just like most NPS campgrounds, it does have a dumpstation and fresh water. The views from here are spectacular too, and these alone make staying here worthwhile. Lots of trees and vegetation. Clean restrooms but no showers. The best hiking trails in Joshua Tree start from this campground but crowds weren't a problem when we camped here.

We stayed here in a 5th Wheel.

In a desert area surrounded by Joshua Trees and brush you can see for miles from the campground. Sites have a lot of space, each has a picnic table and fire pit. Restrooms were well maintained.

We stayed here in a Tent.
