Last summer, we wanted to take a trip to Asheville, NC and camp all the way down. Mind you, we're coming from southern Maryland. Several weeks before departing Maryland, we stopped at one of the local truck stops to grab a laminated travel map and overheard a couple of RVer's talking about Mama's Campground. All we heard was praise and decided we would have to check this campground out.

Hills and more hills. Not suited for man nor beast. The hills within the camping area really took a toll on our knees and back. Mind you, the tent camping was several meters away from any bathroom, so walking down the bathhouse was easy. The hard part was walking back up the steep hills afterward.

Two other issues crept up while camping there, First, while sitting in our chairs either early morning or late afternoon, we heard this thumping noise and what seem to be allot of bark on the top of our tent. Turns out we just so happened to have set up tent under a squirrels feeding area and they were dropping their leftovers all over us. Death from above as we called it..

Later that night we were entertained by a young lady who camped two sites above us. "Smelly Cat" as we later referred to her as, (song from Friends) decided to play her guitar as well as her flute at 10:00 pm est.

We're out of our element..*slaps forehead* this isn't a "tent camper campground" or for the faint of heart. RVers Welcome... Tent Campers Aren't.

We stayed here in a Tent.

Of all the campgrounds we've in, we'll be back to this one for an extended stay. The owners, Tom and Roxanne took this mountain from a bankrupt logging camp/road to one of the most beautiful campgrounds in just 20 years! The wi-fi is robust, the laundry/showers spotless and great hosts (Jen & Jerry).
When we arrived, I asked Jerry were I might find a cigar store and he told me to ask the owner, Tom, as he's a cigar smoker too. Ten minutes later, Tom pulled up in his golf cart and presented me with one of his! He told me about a shop in the Asheville Mall, so I bought him one of mine to return the favor.
If you stay here, be sure to visit the Biltmore Estate. To see some pictures visit: http://classaboomers.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html

We stayed here in a Class A Motorhome.

Across I-40 from Black Mountain and up a medium grade but well worth the visit. Sites are on different levels and tight but very private. Laundry was light and airy, and the bathrooms and showers were the best. As are many of the parks in the mountains the Wi-Fi was pretty sketchy.

We stayed here in a Class C Motorhome.
