Convenient, Inexpensive Overnight Stay

July 18, 2014
My wife discovered this small but convenient campground with her smartphone while I was driving our coach on Interstate 81. We needed a convenient place with hook-ups for an overnight stay and this campground met our needs perfectly. It's just a short drive from I-81, yet far enough away to be reasonably quiet. All sites are pull-through, full-hookup with 30-amp connections, which was sufficient to power our two rooftop air conditioners in the July heat and our microwave/convection oven. I switched our hot water heater to propane.

For a rate of just $25 (cash) we weren't expecting much, but the well-stocked on-site grocery store, sparkling swimming pool, clean showers and coin-op laundry exceeded our expectations. We had a refreshing swim in the evening summer heat after our arrival, with the owner staying late to accommodate us. The store has an ATM machine for those who didn't bring enough cash.

If you're seeking a woodsy county setting with lots of shade, this is not the place for you. Sites are open, level concrete slabs with picnic tables but no fire rings and are surrounded by apartments that were built by the owners when they downsized this campground. However, the convenience of this campground to I-81, the $25 nightly rate and the cordial, accommodating attitude we encountered from the campground's owner left us feeling that we received an excellent value for our overnight camping investment.

We stayed here in a Class A Motorhome.
