Big Meadows Campground is located at Milepost 51 on Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park, approximately two hours from Washington, DC. With more than 200 campsites, Big Meadows is a family oriented campground with access to hiking trails, ranger led programs, and concessionaire facilities. Campsites include a place for a tent or RV, a fire ring, and a picnic table. The RV dump station is located approximately one-half mile from the campground. Campsites are available on a first come, first served basis during the spring and fall shoulder seasons. Shenandoah National Park includes 300 square miles of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the southern Appalachians. Great spot for chilling

When stationed in Washington DC, we would leave after work on Friday and go to Big Meadow. We would only go in the winter when it was not open and the water was off. There was no fee and no grass. There were no tourists so we would have the park to ourselves. One winter we ran out of propane and was very cold. We were newlyweds then so we had our love to keep us warm. Our little dog would always let us know when there was a deer near by.

We stayed here in a Truck Camper.

We were here for 4 days in June '09, no hookups, but there are water spigots & bathrooms throughout the CG, showers are pay showers, and a dump station. There is a store/ restaurant, gas station and museum at the entrance.
We had one of the largest sites i've ever seen, we have a 30ft Class C with dolly & toad, and could have still put another rig the same size in front of it.
Most sites are wooded, lots of tent sites which include "bear boxes" at each one.
For those that aren't into Camping, there is a Lodge, and cabins.
A Great place to stay while touring or hiking Skyline Dr.
