Local Directions: The park is 25 miles northwest of Santa Cruz via Highways 9 and 236 and about 65 miles south of San Francisco. All roads into Big Basin are curvy. From Hwy 9 in the town of Boulder Creek, turn north onto Hwy 236 and Park Headquarters is 9 miles down the highway. The Rancho Del Oso coastal unit of Big Basin is accessible via Highway 1, about 20 miles north of the city of Santa Cruz.

Primitive Group Camps
Sequoia Group Campground is open all year. Each group camp can accommodate 50 campers/18vehicles. Fee is $335/night.
Sky Meadow Group Tent Campground is open seasonally. Each group tent camp can accommodate to 40 campers/15 vehicles. Fee is $270/night.
Backcountry Trail Camps are available by reservation only.

It was an adventure camping at this park. You just never know what to expect. It was pretty warm the morning we arrived but come afternoon we got caught in a rainshower. Thankfully, the general store within the park is well-stocked and carried tarp so we had some dry shelter. It was also quite cold that night. The camp hosts keep this place as neat as a pin, so the restroom and showers are nice. Raccoons come in swarms so keep your food secure.
Sites are fine, with fire rings and picnic tables
