The first time I stayed here was in 1967. Then last year we went back. A low-hanging branch busted our a/c cover. It was a lot of fun visiting the fort and watching the submarines going to the sub base in Kingsbay, Georgia.

| One of Florida's best kept secrets | |
This jewel of a campground has a beautiful beach on the east and the Amelia River on the west. In between is the Civil War era Ft Clinch. Whether it's swimming in the ocean and looking for shark's teeth, fishing in the river or from the pier, this place has it all. Great bath rooms and showers. And best of all only two miles from the Victorian town of Fernandina Beach. One of the busiest state parks so be sure and make reservations.

| Open or Shaded / Great Camping Experience Either Way | |
The ocean-side campsites are open and arranged in a circle, like spokes on a wagon wheel. Those sites surround the spotlessly-clean bath, shower and laundry. The river-side campsites are wooded and mostly shaded. Either could be a good choice depending upon your preference. Beaches, biking and hiking trails and a huge fishing pier offer plenty to do. Fort Clinch itself is a modest extra-cost visit into our country's history. This campground and park is definitely worth the 25 mile round-trip detour off of I-95 and is far more attractive than the commercial campgrounds we passed along the way.

We stayed July of 2011 and we absolutely loved it. beach on one side, river on the other. magnificent views and plenty to see. It has everything you can Imagine. bathrooms are very clean and up to date. The only problem if staying for more than 2 days, you will need at least 6_8 months notice.

| Great campground...lots to do. | |
There is a fee to visit the fort but it's worh it. The campground has two sections one on the beach and one on the river. It can fill up quickly so make your reservations early. Great for hiking, biking, fishing and enjoying the outdoors. The beach lots are in the full sun so take that into consideration if your going during the summer when temperatures are usually in the 90's. The river lots are wooded with lots of shade. Fernandina isn't far and there's lots of nice restaurants and it's fun just to walk the streets and look in the shops.
