Gold Panning Campground

From Tok, AK this campground is reached by driving over 60 miles of bumpy road. Through the mountains with nothing to see but other mountains and trees. No sign of life whatsoever except the occasional moose. Chicken is just at the end of the Top of the World highway and was a gold boom town. Old Chicken consists of a gift shop, a bar, a liquor store and a cafe with good food. There is also a post office that receives mail twice a week, on Tuesday and Friday by airplane. Not many people live here; the tourists and their RVs keep this place alive. We have a pull-through with 30 amp power and of all things free wi-fi. No water or TV. The parks have generators that supply the power to the park since there is no power grid here, nor water supply. If you like to pan for gold this is the place to do it. There is a gold dredge next to the campground.

We stayed here in a 5th Wheel.
