Sad to say that things will eventually change. I guess it's all up to us as parents to make sure that we are able to bring up our kids they way we'd hope.

So true!!!

Re: Getting Teens to Go Camping
My parents didn't take me on camping trips when I was growing up. But now that I've discovered the joy of camping, I can't wait to share that joy with my kids someday. Maybe they'll like it as much as I do, but maybe they won't. I agree that it depends on how the parents raised their teens, but kids will still have to find that love for camping on their own.

Re: Getting Teens to Go Camping
Before the age of the home/personal computers, our camping experiences consisted of a cot placed under a clear plastic tarp suspended between two trees.. (no tent required). Now that the "toys" have taken over, we can't attract youth to our heritage. "Camping is to much of a chore" one youth told me.. they don't like the idea of being away from their friends or their game systems. Connectivity is the issue.. but sometime one just has to "unplug" and get away. Starting your kids off right, in the knowing that is a great world "outside" that awaits.

Re: Getting Teens to Go Camping
You got to get them hooked at an early age, make it an annual trip. That way it gets them into a schedule, knowing that weekend every year is camping weekend.

Also give them activities that they can call their own to do. When my parents took me each year, there were multiple things to do, fishing, hiking, soccer, etc. Also it might entice them to want to go if there was someone their age going as well. My cousins always joined us on our family camping trips and it made it a kids haven, where the kids can run wild. As long we came back for the three main meals, then we could do what ever we wanted.

Don't give up, they can learn to love camping, they will find something they enjoy, as long as they are not allowed to bring any electronics.
