Ask your cellphone provider on their fees as well as the terms and conditions for that.

YES! And very important! I know the iPhone can easily be converted into a HotSpot. But make sure that you're aware if it is included in your data plan. If not, how much will they charge. That was a very expensive lesson I learned. Used my phone as a HotSpot and I ended up paying almost $500 for it.

I know that my iphone 5 can be used as a hotspot. Such a cool thing to have if you have an emergency or in my case, I was lost. Although who caries around a computer when they are hiking. hahaha. Sometimes the greatest advice of being outdoors is not having those devices. My kids are constantly ignoring what you can learn from the outdoor experience. It take some major training to become a great navigators of the woods and the best training you can get is not having a computer to rely on. It might just be because I am an old man, but I used to learn by training in the forest with my dad. He would teach me how to build a fire and all the basics of what you need to learn to survive. Just thinking about those experiences really gives me a great appreciation for my pops.

Re: Using Your Mobile Phone as a HotSpot
I have Verizon and I use my phone as a hot spot almost every day. I have a online business and plan to spend about 90 days this summer in our little pop up camper. The issue is of course how good the signal is coming into the phone. I just bought a Wilson Electronics cellphone extender. The reviews have been mostly great. Over the weekend I tested it in areas where I normally have 2 bars of signal and they went to 5. I am very excited. The device works with 4g and 3 g. BTW it was about $140. through Amazon. This is critical to me as I am still working everyday and have to have a connection. Also I do a lot of boondocking so there is never a wi-fi connection.

Tethering can be really cool, just be sure to watch your usage. You'd be surprised how much data you can go through streaming Netflix or Hulu. One time, I didn't have internet at my apartment for about a week, and after just casually watching Netflix and browsing the internet, I had gone through 47 GB of data. Thankfully, I had unlimited tethering or that would have cost me about $200 to do. But it's really convenient when you want to use the internet but don't have access to it!
