Redwood Forests in Northern CA
Hello fellow tree lovers!

I am looking for suggestions of good campgrounds within the mighty redwood forests in Northern California. In the past I have had a wonderful stay at Austin Creek State Recreation Area. Bullfrog Pond campground is well worth the slightly treacherous drive. The road to get to the campsite should really only be taken in an all wheel drive car. (Although a Prius can indeed make it with a little bit of firm encouragement.) We loved how you were able to break through the redwood trees however, and get gorgeous views from high perch of the campground. Watching the sunrise out there was especially wonderful. It is tent camping only and nice and secluded from the rest of the state park.

Does anyone have any other suggestions of campgrounds slightly off the beaten path in the Redwoods? I am headed down there for a trip as soon as the weather is warm again!

Try Jedadiah Smith Redwoods. Prarie Creek Redwoods my favorite. Roosevelt Elk abound! Gold Bluffs Beach awesome tent camping.

We have never been there yet, but I just got reservations at Jedediah Smith for early August, it is all no hookup but that's fine, judging by the reviews it sounds like a great campground. http://www.rvparkreviews.com/regions/california/crescent-city
