Houston - New York
Hi - We are planning on doing a rather adventurous road trip from Houston to New York in April 2016. We have 9 days to complete the journey and we will be travelling with 4 kids (ages: 13, 12, 9 and 5). Will this be enough time to "see everything"? We are mostly interested in the parks - Smoky Mountains and Washington Jefferson National Forest. Another alternative is to get a return flight to New York and start from there and do a return journey in the camper van. We are first time campers and are tourists in America. I don't know if and when we will all be back there so we are trying to do as much as possible in the short time that we have. I would really appreciate any advice. Thank You!

Hi Danielle,

If you're interested in the East Coast Parks - do you have to start in Houston? Why not start in Washington DC? With young kids in an RV realistically the travel time alone between Houston and New York is 3 days. Which gives you just 6 days to enjoy parks and tourist attractions. I would recommend more time or less travel.

Anyhow, things to consider in additional to what you suggested:

- Houston isn't very interesting with the exception of the space center. If you want to do that allow one day.
- Consider the plantations in Louisiana and New Orleans, but again allow 2 days minimum, better 3 days. So many awesome things to do there. Jean Lafitte National Historic Park is fun on an airboat tour where and you can see all the wildlife including alligators.
- Camping Road Trip along the Natchez Trace Parkway
- Best Things to Do at Shenandoah National Park
- Camping Road Trip along the Blue Ridge Parkway

Have an amazing trip.

Happy RVing,

Julian.

Re: Houston - New York
I have to agree with lonjf2, 9 days including travel times, is pretty ambitious, not really sure how much you're going to actually see on a whirlwind tour, you'll be in a consistent rush.
