Possible discrimination against single workamper applicants?
My dad has been wanting to try workamping for some time now. The only problem is that he has yet to find a campground that would take in single workampers. Mom had passed away five years ago, so technically my dad is single. He's more fit than most 70+ year olds. The thing is, most of the campgrounds that are placing ads for workampers specifically mentioned that the openings are for couples. Quite discriminatory, don't you think?

I think it's more of an economy move over anything else. When they hire couples, they get two employees but only need to provide just sites and utilities just for one instead of two. Also, they see it as a promotional thing that most of the employees working here are couples so it can be a good thing for their image especially when it comes to those family-oriented campgrounds.

Ask him to try calling KOAs directly. A friend of mine who's single got lucky and managed to find one there. Perhaps your dad would get lucky there as well. Good luck!

I heard from a friend that Natchez National Historical Park is offering volunteer workamping opportunities right now.

I agree with you on that Alban. It's definitely more practical for the campgrounds to get couples. However, I don't think that there are any discrimination happening. There are still a number of different campgrounds that accept single workampers.
