The Thermal Wars
Back when I was a kid, I remember not really personally caring about thermals or how they look like. But it seems that things have changed with kids these days. My kids, particularly my pre-teen daughters, have got quite a lot of issues with wearing thermals or anything that can keep them warm. It's seriously driving me and my wife up against the wall. Any suggestions on how to deal with this?

Unfortunately, there are times where the only way how kids would get to learn things and understand why we ask them to do things is if we let them learn the hard way. My wife and I had to deal with something like that when our kids were much younger. Eventually, we decided to let them go around without their thermals (but we still packed them) during one of our camping trips. As the temperature started becoming colder, they began to really feel uncomfortable about the whole thing. Finally, they relented and asked for their thermals. Didn't have a problem about that ever since.

I completely agree. And it's not just about the thermals. It's pretty much everything. I remember one camping trip, my nephew was really adamant that he wanted to have some soda while we were on our way to the campground. My sister doesn't mind giving them a bit but only during meal time. After some time, her husband decided to pull over a 7-11 and got a warm soda and gave it to him to drink. Of course, he eventually felt sick. But he finally got the message. That was the last time he had that tantrum.

That is sooooo true, angela. Sometimes you really need to let them do things on their own so that they would learn to appreciate things.

I agree! I gotta admit that I was guilty about this too when I was a kid. Didn't feel like wearing thermals 'coz I always had this thing that they looked too old fashioned. But after getting a really stuffy head and nose when my dad finally relented and allowed me not to wear one, I learned my lesson. Now, I don't leave without wearing these when the weather becomes colder, whether I'm camping or not.
