It really depends on when will you be camping this year and where you're going. I would recommend the propane lanterns if you're planning to head out later in the year when it can get really chilly in the evening. Aside from lighting your way, you'll be able to get some warmth from it.

LED lanterns for us mainly 'coz I usually go out camping with my kids and they are still quite young, and I'm quite worried that they might be a bit too curious and hurt themselves.

Yes, you and the others have the right idea. Here in CA. there are many campgrounds that are breeding grounds for skeeters! Gas lanterns seem to really attract the little buggers.

Not to mention dealing with the fumes. No matter how long I've been camping, I just couldn't get used to the smell.

I'd personally go for the LED. You'll be able to use it even while RVing.
