Re: Advice Negotiating a Price for a New Fifth Wheel

A friend of mine has been out shopping for a new fifth wheel. His budget is in the mid 40's. He recently got to talk to a sales agent who told him that there is a sale for two models: a 2013 Keystone Avalanche 341tg and a Dutchmen Komfort 3530FBH. According to the sales agent, they are both available for about $45K. It's within his budget, but he is still trying to see if there is a way that he can negotiate the price even further.

I recently checked the MSRP of these two models, and they are running between 61K and 63K.

Is what he's hoping realistic, or is it stretching it way too much.

Not at all, Shisler! RVs don't really have a "fixed" selling price so to speak. There is nothing wrong to try to get the price as low as you can possibly get it. From what I heard, some dealers have as much as a 50% markup on the actual rate. Not sure on how accurate this is, but judging from how aggressive they tend to sell and stay at the initial price that they offer, I'm guessing there is a grain of truth to it. But like what everyone else here suggested, make sure that you come prepared and know which cards to play.
