Need info on a 5th Wheel
was hoping I would be able to find some help on here. I'm looking at buying a used 5th wheel trailer, it's a 1995 Hornet by Damon 275. It has one slide. I was looking at the manufacturers tag on the side and being an older camper is somewhat hard to read. The only weight I could read was GVWR 11,400. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this number is the maximum allowable weight of the trailer completely loaded, right or wrong? Now with that being said, do I need to have a truck that is capable of towing at least that amount of weight or more? How do I know what the trailer actually weighs without weighing it, is there somewhere I can look to get an idea? I'm thinking of buying a new truck as my current truck is only rated at 7400 pounds maximum trailer weight, and I don't want to be at the limit. I'm looking at an older 3/4 ton Ram, would that be enough truck to be safe, or would this trailer require a 1 ton truck?

Thanks for any help...

As I understand it, yes the GVRW is the max weight when the trailer is loaded. I have a 3/4 ton Ram diesel and pull a 10k GVRW Prowler with no problem. When calculating the weight the truck is carrying they typically say 15 to 20% of the trailer weight will be the pin weight which is what the truck is carrying plus anything in the truck. A 3/4 ton will pull it no doubt easily. Will it be legal?? It depends but that looks close to me.
