Using Propane Heaters at Night???
We just recently installed a Wave Safety Catalytic propane heater in our motorhome. I'm a bit concerned though about using it at night. How safe is it? My friends told me that they don't use them at night. My husband told me that it shouldn't be a problem because motorhomes are pretty much well vented. We can't use the heater that came with our RV because it uses too much power ever since my husband installed a CPAP with an inverter. The thing is, there are times when we go camping and it can really cold that I have a hard time sleeping.

Really appreciate your advice on this.

If your RV is well vented, I don't see why using this would this should be a problem. But of course, it's best to check the manual and with the manufacturer if it's safe to use this even if your RV is well vented so that you know how much ventilation is required for it to be enough.

Re: Using Propane Heaters at Night???
Check the specs of your propane heater. If it is a ventless propane heater and it's rated safe to use specifically for RVs, then there shouldn't be any problem. I wouldn't recommend if it is just rated as a propane heater that's safe to use indoors because RVs are more tight fitting and smaller in space than homes. It's also highly recommended that you get a carbon monoxide detector for your RV since all propane operated appliances give off carbon monoxide and other toxic chemicals, even if it is rated RV. This will help you make sure that the levels of toxic gases are kept within a safe level whenever you use it.

Re: Using Propane Heaters at Night???
EJ pretty much covered everything here. Our propane heater comes with a timer so we are able to set it to turn off after running a few hours at night while we're sleeping. That way, it doesn't keep on running all night and there's a lesser chance of carbon monoxide to accumulate even if we got all the vents opened. The heat is enough to keep us snug and warm until the morning.

No matter how well-ventilated a motorhome can be, it's still going to be on the safer side not run the propane heater all throughout the night. I'd go with what lizz said. If your heater has got a timer, best to use it. That way, you can have the heater running until your able to get to sleep and then turn off after a few hours. Even with the vents open on a cold night, your Motorhome will stay warm enough for you to sleep soundly.
