Laminate flooring
We've decided to do away with the carpet in our TT and replace it with laminate flooring. We've seen one in our friend's TT and saw just how much easier it is to clean and maintain.

I'm planning to do the project myself. I was thinking of removing the existing wood flooring since there seems to be a tongue and grove type glued at the seams. How thick would you suggest the laminate should be for a TT and what is the best way to add laminate on the flooring?

Re: Laminate flooring
No reason to remove the wood you have, laminate flooring is a "floating" floor glued tongue and groove. It's not glued or nail to your existing floor.

Re: Laminate flooring
We did away with our carpet 2 years ago and replaced with Allure vinyl flooring. Chose it because once the pieces are snapped together, they are waterproof, unlike ordinary laminate. It's one of those floating floors that murffdog was mentioning so you don't need to glue or nail them to your existing floor. We did have to add a 1/4" plywood subfloor when we installed it because it's quite thin so that it would be in the same level as it was when the carpet was still installed. For the slide runners, we added "Slide Slickers" which I found while shopping with my husband for the Allure vinyl flooring. So far, so good.

Re: Laminate flooring
We got our laminate from Sam's Club. It has a built in backing. We stapled the plastic vapor barrier before installing the flooring. We added a rug underneath the slides to prevent scratching and any problems.

Re: Laminate flooring
This is also going to be one of my projects this coming summer. I initially wanted to replace the carpet with Pergo flooring. But after learning about Allure flooring at Home Depot, it looks like I'll be going with this one instead. It apparently has a lot more advantages than the Pergo flooring that I wanted to first get. Not to mention that it looks so much easier to install. No need for a wood saw and the pieces simply stick together. It's also a lot cheaper by about a buck which can really add up considering that I am planning to replace the entire flooring on my Motorhome.
