Permanent or Portable Satellite Dish
I've been thinking of getting a dish satellite for our Motorhome, specifically one of those automatic aiming ones. I've been getting mixed opinions on whether to get a permanent one or a portable one. Some of my friends have told me that the permanent one is better since it's much more efficient in getting a good signal. Others told me to just get a portable one so that I don't have to worry about it getting damaged by trees in campgrounds, and I can change the placement depending on the campground to get a better signal. Which one would you recommend?

Re: Permanent or Portable Satellite Dish
We got a permanent satellite dish on our Motorhome. We don't usually get any problems with the signal, except when we find ourselves in a campground where the trees are just way to think and the site is pretty small so there is no way to really position our Motorhome to get a good signal. Before we hookup our MH, we would usually fire up our satellite dish first and then I'll move our MH back and forth into the site until we get one. That's the only time that we drop our jacks and set everything up. You might have an easier time getting a signal with a portable one. My only concern about it is the little cubes with auto setup that can be quite expensive and then just set it down on your campsite. Not to mention there is a bigger chance that it could get stolen. No need to worry about that with a permanent one.

Re: Permanent or Portable Satellite Dish
We currently have a Carry Our portable dish and so far we've had no problems with it. It's even able to pull HD on the dish. Since we don't have it fixed up on the roof of our MH, we don't have to worry about trees and trying to find a good signal for it.

Re: Permanent or Portable Satellite Dish
We have one satellite dish that's mounted up on our MH's roof, and a portable one. Whenever we arrive at our site, the first thing we fire up is our permanent one. If we don't get lucky with the signal because of the trees and stuff, then that's the time that we take out our portable one.

Re: Permanent or Portable Satellite Dish
I have both. Comes in really handy especially when we go camping in the northern part of the US where it's so difficult to get a decent signal while camping.
