Dash Mounted GPS
My husband has been thinking about getting a dash mount GPS for our Motorhome. Personally, I don't see the need since our Motorhome already has got an in dash GPS system. Then again, would like to know if the dash mount one is more accurate and reliable?

Re: Dash Mounted GPS
I personally found dash mounted GPS units work a lot better than those in dash units. We are using a Garmin dash mount GPS on our Motorhome and it's really reliable and easy to use.

Re: Dash Mounted GPS
We've been using our Ran McNally RVND 5510 more than the one than our in dash unit. Aside from being reliable, it's also vehicle specific. You can input information about the vehicle like the weight, length, type, etc and it will use this info when it suggests a route so that you won't have to go through one that your rig can't handle. It's also got the coordinates of practically every campground in the US and Canada. Shows also images of ramps and exits (great especially if it's your first trip to the area) and also the speed limit enforced. We've also tried using it in our car once and it worked like a charm. You just have to switch it to car mode.

Re: Dash Mounted GPS
We used our Kenwood in dash unit for the longest time without any problem, until the display finally died out on us. Since the cost to have it repaired was just the same as a brand new one, my husband and I just went off to buy a Rand McNally for a little bit over $300, which is more than half the amount of our Kenwood.

Re: Dash Mounted GPS
Since you already have an in dash GPS system, and it's still in good working condition, I don't really see the need for a dash mounted one. I currently use a dash mounted GPS on my TT which I can remove and transfer to my car when I'm not camping. Much more practical that way.
