Have you Tried Hammock Camping?
Modified By Gearspoke on 12/17/2014 1:40:56 PM)
Serious question since it is the holiday season, and everything is on sale. Has anyone tried Hammock Camping? The whole thing looks like it would be cold and uncomfortable, but I could be wrong. So it would be a great help t be pointed in the right direction. I have done my research, I am more along the line looking for personal experience, what they htought and where they went.

Thank you! :D

It is actually really fun to do hammock camping, and the hammocks these days are really comfortable.

You can check some out here: https://hammocktown.com/collections/camping-hammocks

Re: Have you Tried Hammock Camping?
My father gave me a old jungle hammock when I was a kid. I use to hang it up in the backyard and sleep in it all summer and thought it was great. I use to use it even when some friends would want to just walk off into the woods for a few nights. We lived on the edge of a small town and did that a lot even in the winter. Then I would just set it up on the ground like a one person mountain tent so I was not hanging in the wind on a cold night. I took it with me when I was in Boy Scouts for two weeks summer camp for a few years. In my twenties I found a brand new nylon jungle hammock and took it with me to Europe while me and a friend were motorcycling for three months over seas.
Now that I just turned 60 I am glad to say that my wife and I do have a travel trailer and a seasonal campsite. But I still have that nylon jungle hammock and set it up each season and still sleep in it a few time during the season. My family and friends ask me why I do it? So I tell them what and where I have been with this hammock and some of the great times I have had with it. And they all say WOW!

I prefer swaying in the air than laying on the hard ground! Even mosquitoes aren't an issue any more because there are efficient protections, check these: https://www.tent.net/best-camping-hammock-with-mosquito-net/. I have several in my backyard between the trees. The kids enjoy them. In combination with a good sleeping bag, the comfort and joy are guaranteed!

Hammocks are great in the hot or the more temperate seasons, whichever season that is for you. I haven't tried them in winter, but all reports indicate you need an underquilt or the weight of your body will take away your sleeping bag's insulating power and leave you cold.

I was skeptical about the hammock but it's like being a lil baby in a tree cradle.
