Let one person lead a camping trip
A camping trip means different things to different people. While setting a tent up next to a car and listening to music from the car may be one person's idea of camping, another person may think of camping as hiking miles into the forest, mountain climbing, and spending hours taking pictures of wildlife.

When you're with a group tensions can mount as expectations are shattered. The key is to have one person lead the group and to discuss what the camping trip is going to consist of prior to leaving. This keeps everyone on the same page and prevents what should be an enjoyable experience into a horrible time.

Re: Let one person lead a camping trip
I hear you! For the past several years (this year not included) we would camp with a large group. I have 5 sisters, their significant others, 9 nieces & nephews plus 3 kids of my own. We used to all camp together in 3 or more sites next to each other. I was always in charge of the cooking -- the oldest of the girls -- which I didn't mind. However, the older of the nieces/nephews/kids and even a couple of my sisters like to party and no matter how much I told them to "turn the radio down or turn the damn car alarm off" they just didn't follow camping etiquette. I would spend every night of the trip worrying someone was going to call a ranger or fellow campers would complain or we would get kicked out. What I do now, is camp several sites away from the "partiers" and then I don't have to worry about them getting in trouble. To each their own. I'm not trying to deny them having a good time, just do it respectfully. This year, I have not camped with them at all and although I do miss them sometimes, I love my peace & quiet more!

Trishaz717 are you new to the forum? If so welcome!

I think moving away from them was a teriffic idea! Let someone else do the worrying, or enforcing. That's what I say...sometimes delegation can be a good thing. Especially if they're not going to listen to you. Who needs the stress!! Camping should be fun, not work.

Trish is talking about a bus load of people which can get noisey but so can a group of 3 or 4. In all of my years on the road, it happens at time but rarely does it get out of control. I like company but if we do travel alone, we always meet different people that sit around the campfire.

Re: Let one person lead a camping trip
Some of the best people I've met have been at campgrounds! I love talking about where I've been with others, and where I'm planning on going. Seems to me that everyone is so excited about rehashing their trips. So much fun!
