Advice Bringing Other Kids Camping
My eldest kid asked me if it's possible to bring a few of his friends with us on our last camping trip for this year (later this month). I'd like to say yes, but I don't have any experience on bringing other kids with us during our camping trip without their parents. With so many things that can happen, the last thing that I want are angry parents blaming me and my son for putting their kid in a dangerous situation. Has anyone been through this? Any tips/advice?

Make sure that you know the parents and talk to them. Find out things like allergies, medication, or certain likes and dislikes so that you won't get caught off guard.

I always say never to fill your plate more than you can eat. Since you mentioned that you don't really have that much experience with bringing other kids, that might be a huge problem. It's one thing to bring family with you camping, and another when it's with someone else's kids. You may want to try to have a bit of backyard camping first so that you can have an idea how to handle them in an environment that's safe.

Re: Advice Bringing Other Kids Camping
Wise words, mary! I completely agree. Try having a few backyard camping trips first. That way, you can more or less gauge yourself if you can handle a short trip with other kids. It will also give you an idea on how willing the parents will be. I've had a couple of instances where some of the parents of my kids' friends were a bit wary even if it was just a backyard camping thing at the home.

Re: Advice Bringing Other Kids Camping
Really? Wow! You'd think that inviting them for a backyard camping weekend would be the best option. Are parents these days too protective or paranoid?
