Home Camping Anyone?
Since our kids are still in school, we would usually plan our camping trips during their school breaks. Since my boys are growing real fast and have reached that age when they're a bit more adventurous, I decided to come up with a new tradition for our family. While school is open, we would have a home camping weekend in our backyard once a month. I'd take out our tent, pitch it up in the background, create a place where we can have a bonfire, hang out, cook our food and then sleep out. Not only do we get our camping fix. But we also take that time to try out the nifty little camping gadgets that we buy for our upcoming trips. But I guess the best part of it is the fact that it gives me and the boys a chance to bond, something that is definitely priceless.

That sounds like a really swell idea to get kids interested and keep them interested with camping. When the kids were younger, we'd do the same thing with them. Sometimes, they would even invite some of their friends over to join us.

My kids and I used to do something like that as well. They enjoy it a whole lot that now my youngest son set up a small dome tent in his room where he would go to whenever he just wants some time on his own. Sometimes, he brings his friends over and they camp out in the backyard. My wife and I would usually take turns bringing them food and making sure that they don't start a fire or what not.

Home camping is really a great way to bond and introduce kids to camping in general. We'd alternate camping in the backyard with the kids and camping in our Motorhome at times. In a way, it gives them this feeling that they are out on a vacation, even if they are just right in our backyard.

Maybe a little more adventurous, find a local CG , say 10-20 miles from the house, (if possible), have everything packed up & leave right after school/work on Fri afternoon, come home Sunday afternoon. Maybe a little short term, but it's still camping.
