RE: Home Camping Anyone?
Camping in your backyard can be fun if you have a limited amount of time. My kids love to camp regardless of the location. Another idea is indoor camping as a family night actvity. Setting up a tent in your living room and eating hot dogs and s'mores is a fun family night activity, especially if the weather does not permit you to go to the campgrounds. Of course, if I have my choice, I would always be at a real campgrounds, even if only for a couple nights!

Welcome to the CampingRoadTrip forums, CampyMom.

I agree with you, there is nothing that can really beat spending a few nights out with nature. But as you said, sometimes the weather can really put a hold on camping plans. Setting up a tent at home is one way to make the most out of it.

Re: RE: Home Camping Anyone?
Once in a while, my kids would decide that they would pitch a tent out in the backyard and do some camping on their own. Sometimes, they even ask their friends to come and sleep over with them. Instead of just the usual slumber party, they would do things outdoors. I have to admit that sometimes it drives me nuts since they will tell me on short notice and I have to rush to prepare the food and the other stuff. But it's still great since it just lets me know how much my kids enjoy our camping trips that they would even go out and do it on their own now (even if it is just in our backyard).

Re: RE: Home Camping Anyone?
That's true. Nothing really beats camping outdoors. But camping at home in your backyard can definitely help. Before we started taking our kids camping with us, we use to set up our tent out in the backyard to let them get a feel of what's it like to go camping so that when we finally bring them, they won't be in for a shock. Sometimes, we would also run our Motorhome as well. Aside from giving the kids the feeling of actually camping, it also gives us a chance to check if our Motorhome needs some repairs.
