Has anyone else got this kind of mileage with their DP?
I recently bought a 2000 Harney Coach Works Riata It has 26,000 GVR
and has a Cat 3126B with the Allison 3060 6 speed. We took it for a test trip from Phoenix to Camp Navajo which is about 12 West of Flagstaff on I40. Camp Navajo has a nice little Military RV campground. I kept the speed at 60mph using the cruise control as much as possible. We didn't have a toad. Before we left I topped it off and noted the mileage. I filled it yesterday in preparation for a trip we are taking to Bryce Canyon tomorrow. Well I was elated to find out we got 13.4 mpg on that trip. I checked my numbers 3 x's and even had the DW check them and sure enough 13.4! Anyone else ever get that kind of mileage? I will be towing our 2010 Honda CRV this time so I will report back after this trip.

We have a similar CAT 3126, Allison 6spd and weight around 25000 lbs. We've never seen 13 mpg. I believe we've seen a high of 11+mpg on a trip where the ground was flat, no gen usage and minimal AC. We DO get on either side of 10mpg using AC and gen usage in varied HWY terrain. Heavy gen usage, idling, and city/urban/hills yields a low of around 8mpg. We can count on 10+mpg on any trip that includes all hwy driving. We generally travel between 60mph and 70mph on interstates.

Hi,

CHeck this website, and try to fill up at the lowest cost gas stations. You can input your destination, MPG and fuel tank size, and it will give you a list of the lowest price gas stations along the way.

GasBuddy.com

Flagstaff is not known for low fuel prices, but Page might have some. Mount Carmel Junction is probably a good place to get diesel fuel. I would get at least 20 gallons, if only to avoid fueling up near Flagstaff on the way home.

Ruby's Inn is a great place to stay while at Bryce. Enjoy the trip. The canyon walls change to wonderful colors just before sunset, worth the wait.

Fred.
