Need Reassurance- Running Gen on road for 2 hrs
Hi.. planning a trip approx 2.5 hrs away from home... Plan to run GENERATOR and the L/R AC on my trip southeast for at least 2 hrs. If I recall correctly this should not be an issue and actually good that I am exercising the Onan 8.0.
Will be boon-docking for one night... Should be OK..
Thank you !

Re: Need Reassurance- Running Gen on road for 2 hrs
Last time I HAD TO run my genset while traveling ( same reason why you wish to) I ran it for 9 hrs straight EXCEPT for my fuel stop ( about 30 minutes). It gets HOT in Texas in the month of June!!!

Just keep an eye on fuel levels is all. I run my gen down the road all the time, only burns about .3-.5 gallon an hour with both AC's running on a hot day.

In hot weather, I normally run my generator, both a/c, and ref. while traveling. If I drycamp, then I just keep the gen. running so I can operate tv, micro, and other items. It will not hurt to run the gen. as long as it has oil, fuel, and cooling.

Re: Need Reassurance- Running Gen on road for 2 hrs
My routine is to run the generator at full load, everything that pulls on it gets turned on, refrig, both a/c's. Stop and use microwave, hot water heater, and run like this for 1 hr. If you want, then turn off what you want and run 1 ac to keep unit cool. This gives your generator a good workout and is a test to be sure other items are working. It is less stress on the dash a/c (which I rarely use). I like the comfort of the closed windows and cool air when traveling in the south. Only question is when was oil changed? We use our unit quite a bit so every 3-5 thousand miles it gets new oil and filter. Onan is a great unit and with use and maint. we have never had a problem.
