Pets in campgrounds--your thoughts???
While having dinner with some friends, one started ranting away about how more campgrounds should have a "No Pet Policy". Apart from the fact that his wife is allergic to both cats and dogs (which can definitely ruin their camping trip), he also started ranting about the mess they leave behind, the barking (or meowing) and all that stuff. Sparked a really good conversation among us over dinner. Personally, I really don't mind about the pets. It's some owners that I can get so annoyed about. A lot would bring their pets but would not even bother picking up after them when they poop. What are your thoughts on having pets in campgrounds?

Wow! What's this world coming to? Just because one person's got allergies doesn't mean that they should ban all pets. My son's got asthma and it gets triggered once in a while by dog and cat fur, but that doesn't mean that we'd want to have pets banned as well. I'd agree with the mess part and a bit on the noise, but that's all the part of their irresponsible owners.

I don't mind campers bringing in their pets to campgrounds...just as long as they are responsible pet owners. A little bit of consideration to other campers can go a long way. How hard is it to bend down and pick up your dog's poop on the ground anyway?

Re: Pets in campgrounds--your thoughts???
For me, I don't mind other campers bringing their dogs with them while they go camping so as long as they are not those really big, scary ones. A few summers back, our daughter was playing right on our campsite when she let out this really loud scream. My husband and I rushed outside from our Motorhome to find a huge bulldog has made its way to our campsite and was letting out this low growl while staring at my daughter. Apparently, it was the pet of one of our camper "neighbors". Although he kept assuring us that the dog is really friendly, it gave my daughter quite a fright. It was a good thing nothing happened to my daughter, but it was enough for us to make sure that when we choose a campground now, these are parks that don't allow any pets in the campground.

We bring our lab with us whenever we go camping. He's been such a loyal companion to us and we consider him as part of the family. Of course, we make it a point that we always make sure that he's on a leash and we only bring them around the dog runs. Never had any complaints from our camping neighbors.
