Re: portable air conditioner in RV
Based on what you said, the only way that I see it not working is the fact that the heat in Texas can be very unbearable that it can overwork your a/c especially in the late morning and early afternoon. If you're having problems running the generator while operating the portable a/c, it may be that the generator that you have may have the sufficient power needed to run this plus all your other electronic equipment. Calculate the watt usage of all your electronic items with the portable a/c and compare it to the wattage allotment for the generator.

Portable AC units which are available in the market these days are compact and can be used even in the smallest space. You can easily use it vented out through a window panel.

A portable unit has to be placed on a flat and open place within a radius of at least 30 cm from the walls. Connect one end of the corrugated hose to the air outlet of an air conditioner, and the other to the adapter located in the opening of the window or wall.

The main advantage is easy installation. You do not need to contact a technician to install such an air conditioner, so you can use it immediately after purchase. A portable air conditioner is so named because it can be easily moved, to another rented apartment, or taken to the country for the weekend. Of course, this cannot be done with a conventional split system.
The next plus is a lower price compared to the total cost of traditional split systems since there is no need to pay for an installation.

The main disadvantage of a portable air conditioner
Portable air conditioners, even with a similar split-power system, will have less efficiency in operation, therefore, it is not worth counting on supercooling in half an hour at a temperature of 40 degrees of heat "overboard". In simple terms, it pumps heat from the room to the outside. At the same time, the temperature inside the room decreases, and outside it increases.

Also, you may find useful alternative methods of cooling for your van.
