Residential Refrigerators???
My sister and her husband just recently got their own camper. Instead of getting a refrigerator that's specially designed for RVs, they're opting to get one of the residential refrigerators instead, mainly because it's a lot cheaper than RV refrigerators. I've been trying to convince them that getting a residential refrigerator for their camper may not really be a good idea....or am I mistaken? Your thoughts are highly appreciated.

Re: Residential Refrigerators???
Depends on what your going to do with it. If a seasonal, you will save a boat load on your electric bill, if boondocking, you will need a generator to keep it cold. If traveling you will also need the generator to keep it cold. An RV fridge runs on electric or gas (some battery, expensive) making no need for a generator.

Re: Residential Refrigerators???
When we got our Motorhome a few years back, we decided to invest on buying appliances that were specially designed for RVs. That included our refrigerator. I admit that it was definitely more expensive than the residential ones. But it's definitely worth the investment that we put into it. For one thing, because the fridge is designed to be placed in the RVs, they are more able to deal with the stress on the road than the residential ones. That includes being able to keep shut and not have all the stuff inside flying all over the place especially during sharp turns. Another thing is that refrigerators built for RVs can run on different power sources unlike residential refrigerators that can only work on one power source.

RV fridges are definitely a great investment. Gives you more flexibility in terms of the source of power that you can use. You can have it running while you're on the road so that it keeps everything cool and fresh.

Re: Residential Refrigerators???
We initially got a fridge that you'd use at home for our camper when we got it coz it was much cheaper. So far, it has worked pretty well for us.
