Do You Really Save on Military CGs?
A few camping friends of mine have told me that military campgrounds are the way to go when it comes to budget camping. I've checked a few of them, and I don't really see how I'll be able to save when camping here. Practically all only has a daily rate. Haven't found yet one that gives a monthly rate. Most of the private campgrounds I've stayed has a monthly rate of less than $500. If I spend $15/night in a military campground, I have to spend about $450/month. And that's just dry camping. One private campground I've stayed for a month cost the same amount for their monthly rate, but they got full hook ups, cable, WiFi, and other stuff that military campgrounds don't have. The way how I see it, private campgrounds come out more budget friendly. Or am I missing something here?

How long you plan to stay is really one good factor. If you're just thinking of going out camping for the weekend, for example, then yes, military campgrounds are a cheaper option. We often use military campgrounds more as a stop over point if we are going on a long road trip. $15/night would definitely beat having to shell out $30-$45/night just so that you can stop and get some sleep before heading out again the next day.

I agree with ej. It all depends on how long you'll be staying. If it's just for a place to spend the night or the weekend, military campgrounds are pretty good. Other than that, I would go with private ones.

Nope, you're not missing anything. You're right. In the long run, private campgrounds are generally cheaper than military campgrounds. The prices are pretty much the same, but you really get so much more.
