This is a great buy for residents of Michigan, and a great investment in State Parks even if you don't use them much. But it does nothing for non-residents. They will continue to pay the day use fee or the annual non-resident permit fee. Which, I believe, is $8.00/day or $29.00/annualy. That means $8.00/day for each day you stay in a campground, in addition to your camping fee. So if you're staying more than three days, you'll probably buy the annual pass. Just be aware that the pass is not transferable. If you visit in the summer in the family SUV and want to go back in the fall in your pickup, you'll have to buy another pass. If Michigan would issue the non-resident pass to the person instead of the vehicle, I'd have no complaint. And you Michigan residents, I encourage you to check YES for the Recreation Passport, even if you think you may not use it. It will be $10.00 well spent. |
