New USB Modem Recommendations
My brother uses an old Pantech UM175 USB modem or something like it as well as a Wilson yagi, amplifier, and panel antenna. They were having some problems getting a signal while we were out camping last weekend, but it worked fine with our Thunderbolt. I'm guessing that they would need a new USB modem. My brother tried calling VZW and they recommended for him to upgrade to a 4G smartphone with a new contract. My brother is very happy with his 3G non-smartphone (don't ask me why), and is just not interested with getting a 4G or a smartphone or both.

My question is if he can get a new VZW 551L 3G/4G modem from VZW without a new contract? If so, where? Also, what other options can he look into?

Re: New USB Modem Recommendations
I'd recommend to go with Millenicom. They got a USB modem for Verizon 3G that your brother can use both while traveling and at home. Personally, he's not missing much by sticking to his 3G phone. 90% of America still doesn't have any 4G anyway, but of course that might change really soon.

Re: New USB Modem Recommendations
Is he planning to use the modem in a router? If so, I'd suggest to go for the Pantech UML290. It's more stable. The USB760 is also good, but it's a bit more expensive. About $10/month more.
