Salvaging a Laptop
Not sure if this is the right place to post this. Please feel free to move this to the right place if ever.

I accidentally spilled some juice on my Laptop while on vacation in Mexico. Took it to a repair shop while I was there. They managed to get it to boot, but everything is now screwed up. No matter what icon I click on the desktop, it only opens up the photo editor. When I talked to them, they said that the keyboard is the one that's faulty now because of the juice. Best option that they gave me was to either get a new laptop or use a USB keyboard. Did a bit of canvassing and found it would be cheaper for me to just get a "new" one. Found a few computers on eBay.

My question is: is it possible to take out the hard drive from the new laptop that I'm getting and then just put in my old one? There are a lot of important files in there that I really need and can't afford to lose.

Thanks a lot in advance!

Yes, it's possible. Brought it to a computer repair shop near my office and they did it.

Fair warning: there is still the possibility that not all of the files will be recovered and restored. I learned this lesson the hard way. That's why now, I always back up really important files into an external hard drive. That way, if ever things like this happens, I still got my files in tact.

Shisler nailed it, especially when it comes to being hopeful about getting all of your files in tact. But since you mentioned it was because of a short rather than a virus, your chances of getting them all in tact is quite high.

Try to have it checked first. From what I know, you can just have the keyboard replaced.

Yes, it is possible. Had to go through that same experience, too when my son accidentally spilled some milk on my laptop. Although personally, I would suggest to bring to the service center of your laptop's manufacturer rather than in one of those general computer shops. Authorized service centers would usually give a warranty after they do any repairs on your laptop.
