Fruit Salad

With the abundance of diners and fast food restaurants along the road you may find yourself eating chicken tenders and burgers more than salads and sandwiches while on your way to your campground, but this does not have to be the case. Fruits are one healthy alternative that is always in season; they complement breakfast meals, kids love them, and they're a great before dinner snack.

We all know that breakfast is the most important part of the day. That's why it is important to pay special attention to what you eat in the morning. Instead of having fried eggs and bacon for breakfast, try a bowl of fresh fruit salad and yogurt. You'll feel satisfied and ready for the trip ahead of you.

Fresh fruits are even a good idea for young children. They love to have sweets and what's sweeter than a ripe and juicy strawberry? If you recall from our article on ways to entertain kids while on the road we recommended having individually wrapped snacks prepared. Fruits can be easily packed into zip lock bags and labeled for each child.

Let's face it - snacks are a necessary part of any camping trip. Most of us typically buy a bag of chips to handle our snack cravings while on the road, however, a bag of diced fresh fruits can definitely be used as a substitute to satisfy those cravings. If you must have a bag of crispy chips for your trip you can also try fruit chips that come in a variety of flavors such as dried mango or apple cinnamon.

Eating healthy does not require you to change every aspect of your diet. Once you'e started you'll see how a few simple substitutions will go a long way!
