Halloween has now become a popular event for many campgrounds and RV parks, so if you will be out camping or RVing on Halloween, make sure you have yummy Halloween treats and Halloween snacks prepared for the trick or treaters as well as fun and easy Halloween inspired cocktails for the adults. To help we have come up with a list of easy to prepare treats perfect for a camping road trip. You may want to prep them at home and pack it to go, or if you have the means to, you can also choose to prepare them in your RV.

TREATS

Witches' Warts

Serves: 8 (2 oz. per serving)
Preparation time : 20 to 30 minutes

  • Prep: 5 minutes
    Cook: 15 to 25 minutes

Our version of the Witches' Warts is very simple. These are actually sugarcoated peanuts, similar to beer nuts served in bars. All you need are print-out labels to accompany them!

Equipment:

  • A wide and deep pan, so the peanuts can move around freely
  • Stove
  • Flat tray
  • Small individual bags
Witches' Fingers
Our version of this popular Halloween snack is delightfully unique!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 cups raw shelled peanuts
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • Powdered white sugar (for sprinkling)
  • Fine Salt (optional)

Instructions:

  • 1.  Mix one part water to one part sugar. Stir until sugar is dissolved.
  • 2.  Pour sugar-water mixture in the pan.
  • 3.  Over medium heat, bring to a boil. Stir constantly so the sugar doesn't stick to the pan.
  • 4.  Pour in the peanuts once it starts to boil. Continue stirring.
  • 5.  Cook until the sugar-water starts caramelizing and the color turns golden. It should be the consistency of honey. Do not wait for the caramelized sugar to turn into a dark amber color because this will continue to cook even after you remove it from the heat.
  • 6.  When the peanuts have turned into a nice golden color, remove from the heat. Sprinkle with salt depending on preference. Stir peanuts.
  • 7.  Tip it onto a flat tray to dry. Make sure that the nuts are spread out evenly in a thin layer so they will be easier to break off.
  • 8.  Sprinkle with powdered sugar.
  • 9.  Once the peanuts are nice and cool, break apart into small portions.
  • 10.  Place in small transparent bags, seal and label.

Another recipe of Witches' Warts consists of chocolate coated nuts or raisins. The ingredients and instructions are basically the same, instead of adding peanuts, add the chocolate coated nuts/raisins when the sugar has caramelized and turned into the consistency of honey. Coat evenly with the caramelized sugar and remove from heat.

Witches' Fingers

Serves: 8 servings per one package of (16 oz.) Mozzarella Cheese Sticks or 2 Cheese Sticks per person
Preparation time: 25 to 50 minutes

  • Prep: 20-40 minutes
    Cook: 5-10 minutes

Unlike traditional recipes of Witches Fingers, Halloween camping recipe does not require you to bake! And it taste like Pizza!

Equipment:

  • Frying pan and a stove
  • Flat tray
  • Paper towels or cheese cloth (to absorb excess oil)
  • Toothpicks

Ingredients:

  • Mozzarella cheese sticks
  • Pepperoni
  • Ketchup
  • Instant pancake batter
  • Vegetable oil

Preparation:

  • 1.  Prepare ready-made pancake batter preferably with a very thin consistency
  • 2.  Slice pepperoni into small "fingernails"
  • 3.  Slice Mozzarella Sticks lengthwise in half, this makes two "fingers".
  • 4.  Carve a small indention on the rounded end of the mozzarella stick. This will be the "nail bed" where the "pepperoni fingernail" will be placed.

Instructions:

  • 1.  Start by heating oil in the frying pan. The oil should be enough to cover the fingers.
  • 2.  Mold the sliced mozzarella cheese into fingers (the cheese should be at room temperature and easy to mold). Make sure that there is a very knobbly knuckle in the middle.
  • 3.  Carve deep finger lines on it using a toothpick (look at your finger and follow the lines there). The lumpier the "finger", the better.
  • 4.  Dip the "fingers" in the batter, the batter should be thin enough so that the finger lines are still visible.
  • 5.  Lay the cheese fingers on the tray and dot the carved "nail bed" with Ketchup.
  • 6.  Place the "Pepperoni fingernail" on the "nail bed". The catsup should ooze out the sides of the nail.
  • 7.  Gently place the "fingers" in the pan (the oil should already be hot) with the finger nail facing up.
  • 8.  Once fingers are starting to turn golden brown, remove from heat.
  • 9.  Lay on a tray lined with paper towels or a cheese cloth to absorb excess oil.
  • 10.  Add extra Ketchup for a more bloody effect if desired.
  • 11.  Serve hot.

  3. 3.  Pipe black frosting into the etched lines.
  4. 4.  Fill in the insides of the eyes with the same black frosting.

Lollipop Ghosts

Preparation time: 1-3 minutes per lollipop ghost

The Lollipop Ghost is a classic yet very simple Halloween treat that you can give to trick or treaters.

You will need:

  • Globe shaped lollipops
  • Disposable plain white table napkins, two for each "ghost"
  • Black felt tip marker
  • Transparent or white sticky tape

Instructions:

  1. 1.  Place an unfolded napkin flat on the table. Fold a second napkin into a square and place it on top, right in the middle of the first napkin (so the wrapper of the lollipop will not show through).
  2. 2.  Place the lollipop head first in the center of the two napkins.
  3. 3.  Gather the sides of napkins together and wrap around the lollipop to form a ghost.
  1. 4.  With a transparent or white sticky-tape, create a neck for the ghost by wrapping the tape around the base of the globe, on the topmost part of the lollipop stick.
  2. 5.  Draw three black circles on the napkin (on head of the lollipop). Two for the eyes and one for the gaping mouth.

COCKTAILS

If we have treats for the kids, we also have treats for the grown-ups! For those throwing an adult party, of course the drinks should also be themed for the spookiest night of the year. Here are some simple to prepare frightening cocktails for you and your guests.

Tip: 1 standard shot is equal to 1 fluid ounce

Black Martini / Black Cat

A black drink? It's hard to get any more Halloween than that! You will need a cocktail shaker and some ice.

Ingredients:

  • Vodka or Gin (There is a black vodka called Blavod, the drink will be really black if this is used. Otherwise, clear vodka or gin will do but it'll make a slightly less opaque black drink).
  • Black Raspberry Liqueur (a good brand is Chambord) or Blackberry Brandy if you want a stronger drink.
  • Blue Curacao (optional)
  • Lemon Twist for garnish

Portions:

  • For every 3 1/2 oz of gin or vodka, you should have at least a 1/2 oz of Black Raspberry Liqueur or Blackberry Brandy. If you will be adding Blue Curacao, it should be the same proportion as the Black Raspberry Liqueur or Blackberry Brandy. But you can alter this depending on your taste.

Instructions with sample proportions:

  • 3 1/2 shots of gin or vodka.
  • 1/2 shot of black raspberry liqueur or blackberry brandy. Whichever you may prefer.
  • 1/2 shot of Blue Curacao (optional)
  • Lemon twist for garnish (optional)
  1. 1.  Pour everything in a cocktail shaker.
  2. 2.  Add ice.
  3. 3.  Shake well.
  1. 4.  Strain into a chilled glass and serve cold.
  2. 5.  Add a lemon twist for garnish.

Bloody Martini with Eyeball

A bloodstained drink garnished with a creepy eyeball.

You will need a cocktail shaker, a peeler, an ice tray, water and some ice and you must have a freezer in order for you to make an eyeball garnish.

Ingredients for the Eyeball:

  • Round, red radish. Big enough to hold an olive but small enough to fit in a cube in the ice tray.
  • Pimiento stuffed olive (green or black)

Instructions:

  1. 1.  Roughly peel the red radishes. Make sure you leave streaks of red skin so they look like blood vessels.
  2. 2.  Scoop out an olive sized hole at the top of the radish. This is where you will be stuffing the olive.
  1. 3.  Stuff olive in each hole. The pimiento must be facing out.
  2. 4.  Place the "eyeball" in each cube of an empty ice cube tray. Fill with water and freeze.

For the cocktail:

  • Gin
  • Grenadine
  • Lemon Juice
  • Vermouth (optional)

Portions:

  • A splash of lemon juice and vermouth for every 1 1/2 ounces of gin. The amount of Grenadine usually varies, but there should be enough to make the cocktail red-stained. The portions can, of course, vary depending on your taste.

Instructions with sample proportions:

  • Grenadine
  • 1 splash lemon juice
  • 1 splash vermouth
  • 1 1/2 shots of gin
  1. 1.  Combine all the ingredients in a shaker with ice.
  2. 2.  Shake well.
  1. 3.  Strain into a chilled glass.
  2. 4.  Garnish with frozen eyeball.

Screwed Up Screw Driver

A gorgeous, two tone drink that is very easy to prepare drink and uses only 3 ingredients. You will need a tall glass and a teaspoon.

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup ice
  • 1 cup orange or tangerine juice
  • 1 1/2 ounce black vodka (Blavod)
  • 1 black licorice twist, for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. 1.  Place ice cubes in a tall glass.
  2. 2.  Pour in orange or tangerine juice.
  3. 3.  Take the teaspoon and position it facedown over the mouth of the glass.
  1. 4.  Slowly and carefully pour the black vodka over the back of the teaspoon so it just floats on top of the juice and creates a black layer.
  2. 5.  Serve immediately.

Dracula's Kiss

This is another visually stimulating two-tone drink that is perfect for Halloween. You will need a highball glass for this drink.

Ingredients:

  • 1 shot of black cherry vodka
  • 1/2 shot of grenadine
  • Cola
  • Maraschino cherries for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. 1.  Pour the grenadine in the glass. Make sure you coat the bottom.
  2. 2.  Add ice.
  3. 3.  Slowly pour in the vodka.
  1. 4.  Pour cola filling glass to the brim.
  2. 5.  Add cherries for garnish.
