The seasonal guests, who all know each other, are not so welcoming to newbies and outsiders. A few of them act as if they own the place. Otherwise, the staff are very accommodating and they've done a good job in keeping the place clean, neat and comfortable. In fact, they are pretty OC when it comes to the cleanliness of the place. They've got large and level sites with full hookups and wi-fi but no cable TV. Lots of trees, but they didn't interfere with our satellite signal. Lovely amenities, including a hiking trail, a hot tub, weekly coffee and doughnuts. Quite isolated, though, with the nearest Wal-Mart some 23 miles away. A truly lovely place if not for those snobby cliques.

We only stayed overnight despite all plans to stay longer. We just couldn't. The place is run down and requires a lot of TLC. There are weeds and trash everywhere. The roads are in need of repair. A number of permanent residents are present, and their sites speak loudly of lack of maintenance. It's just dreadful here.

If you're planning to tour around the Finger Lakes region, this is definitely a campground to consider. Very nice and well-maintained. Lots of activities to keep the kids happy. Friendly and accommodating staff. Unfortunately, they can be too accommodating that they tend to be very lenient with the rules here like quiet hours, adult-only swimming times, and the like. Trash bins need to be emptied more often.

We didn't plan on staying at this park. It just so happened that the park we had intended to stay at was full and we needed to find a place to stay. We drove around a bit and found this place. I'm glad we did. It's one of the most well-run campgrounds we've been to. Everything is neat and clean, and the sites are large. They've got full hookup sites and the hookups work excellently. They don't have cable TV or wi-fi but we got a good reception using our satellite dish. The staff are friendly and helpful and so are the seasonals staying here. It's very quiet and peaceful. It would have been perfect if they have amenities like a swimming pool or a store. Still, it's an excellent place to stay and I highly recommend it.

| Ideal During the Weekdays | Great campground! The staff at the office were really friendly and accommodating. Sites are okay, not too narrow. A bit uneven but nothing that a few leveling blocks can fix. Restrooms and showers were really clean. Electric and water hookups on the low side. Best to visit this place during the week because it can get quite busy during the weekends.

| A challenge for bigger rigs | Just like most campgrounds in national parks, Blackwoods doesn't have any hookups. But that's not a problem, as there's a dumpstation nearby and paid showers just outside the entrance of the CG. There are also free firewood available, although the rangers often ask campers to take only what they need. It's a very quiet park, although some campers staying there at the same time as us keep their generators on all day, which was the only noise in the park, and the rangers don't really enforce quiet time. It's also a challenge to park a big rig here. The sites are tighter than those found in other CGs in other national parks, so if you've got a big rig, you have to dodge trees and low-lying branches and risk a few scratches before you can park on your site.

| A nice, clean and quiet campground | Hemlock only has a few sites for short-term guests like us, but those sites are nice but tight to maneuver if you have a big rig. The owners and the permanent residents we met were all very friendly and treat you as if you're a true member of their community. The owners were especially helpful and gracious too. The site we got had full hookups and cable TV. There's wi-fi too. The place is very clean and well-maintained, although they only have a couple of washers and dryers for the entire campground.

This campground is a very nice and clean place. The site we got had full hookups and cable TV. We like it that the place had a well-stocked store that is open till late at night and a fishing pond for the campers' use. Also, it's only a short hike to Catawba Falls. Very nice, and we'll definitely return.

| Good enough if not for the trains | This KOA is definitely kid-friendly, I'd give it that. My kids had fun at the playground and made a few new friends. You can rent a bike here, fish at the private lake, or play putt-putt golf too. As for facilities, they all look clean and new, including the bathrooms. We had a full hookup site, good cable TV and decent wi-fi. The staff were very friendly and helped us back into our site. I have two issues, though. One is the sites are too close together, making it hard to move around, especially when it's full and the other guests just park their cars wherever they want to. The other is the train noise. The front side of the park is only a few yards away from a railroad, and the noise can be overwhelming even in the small hours.

This is definitely one of the best parks we stayed! We got a site that gave us a view of the lake. So beautiful. It was adequately spaced. Hiking trails lead up to Bandslier Monument and the most gorgeous waterfalls we've seen. Another hiking trails led down to the canyon. Can't wait to come back.
