Very liberal use of the term "Resort", this place was probably once a great CG, but was allowed to fall into a sad state.
The new owners are doing a lot of work to bring it back, but it still needs a ton of work. The road into it was obviously once paved, but it is now so bad, they should put it back to gravel, it would be far smoother, same for the interior roads, they show some signs of once being paved, but are rough & narrow, with trees close to the road, the pull throughs are somewhat unlevel & difficult to maneuver into & out of because of the closeness of trees. On the plus side, they have a beautiful Lake, nice store/resteraunt & they are very quiet & secluded, the folks that run it are friendly & polite. A lot of potenial.

We were here in May' 09, the place could use a lot of work, we had a FHU pullthrough, w/cable & Wifi. The pads are short, which meant, I had to pull forward, with the front off of the pad, which meant a lot of leveling, lots of trees, actually too many, we couldn't put the awning out, but no big deal with all the shade. interior roads are gravel, Wifi worked, but very slow. We didn't use any of the amenities as we were only there for the night. We paid the Passport America rate of $17.50, and if in the area again, we will stay here for a night again.

We stayed here in July '08 while visiting the Mammoth Cave area. The owners are very nice, friendly folks.
We had a full hookup, partially shaded, pull through site, the CG is obviously an older Park that , but the new owners have made extensive repairs & upgrades. The Bathrooms/showers are old, but clean & functional.
It's handy for touring Mammoth Cave area, 6.5 mi to the Mammoth Cave Visitor center. We Would deffinately stay here again.

We stayed here for 7 days in June '08 with full hookups while we toured the Black Hills/Mt Rushmore area. A quiet family type CG , on the northern edge of Custer State Park, with a well stocked little store, ice cream shop/restaurant. Bathrooms & showers were old, but fuctional & clean, staff was friendly & helpful.
The Passport America rate of $16 will have us there again when in the area.
Make sure to follow the directions on their web site VERY CLOSELY, Do NOT follow Google, or MapQuest directions, as you will almost Certainly NOT make it through the tunnels with an RV, (except maybe a Popup.)

We were here for 4 days in June '09, no hookups, but there are water spigots & bathrooms throughout the CG, showers are pay showers, and a dump station. There is a store/ restaurant, gas station and museum at the entrance.
We had one of the largest sites i've ever seen, we have a 30ft Class C with dolly & toad, and could have still put another rig the same size in front of it.
Most sites are wooded, lots of tent sites which include "bear boxes" at each one.
For those that aren't into Camping, there is a Lodge, and cabins.
A Great place to stay while touring or hiking Skyline Dr.

We have stayed here a couple times, easy access off I-90.
Most of the place is Seasonals, & permanents but do have some pull throughs with Water & electric, and a few Full hookups & a dump station
There are 2 ponds/lakes, one for swimming & one for fishing, putt putt golf, arcade, showers & bathrooms were old but clean.
All in all, it's not a "resort" but very adequate and the Passport America rate of $17 a night was enough to keep us coming back when in the area.

| Misty Mountain Camp Resort | We stayed here for 2 days last year, and found it to be a very nice CG.
They have full hook-ups (w/Cable),pull through sites,.
The place is well maintained & clean, & quiet, staff is very friendly, they have all the amenities, though we didn't really use them as we were off site seeing.
Easy access off exit 107 I-64. We stayed here in a Motor home, and will stay here again, when in the area.

ejdixon wrote Boondocking is pretty much staying in a campground or wilderness area where there are no hookups. Thats only 1/2 right, Boondocking is not done in a campground, it IS done in the wilderness, generally away from other campers, in the Boonies, hence the name, Boondocking. If you are in a campground without hookups, you are dry camping, not boondocking.

| Re: Renewal Discount Club Rates | A lot of folks swear by Good Sam, all I can say is, that since the have changed the requirement for Camping World, that you must now belong to GS to get the discount at CW, I joined, if that were not so, I'd never belong to Good Sam.

| Re: NEW owner of our FIRST trailer | Forgot to mention, FYI, you can purge the propane lines by simply lighting one of the stove top burners, let it burn for a minute or so. Also, before turning on the water heater, Be VERY sure that the heater is full of water. Have a good trip.

Am I to take it then that the Aussies only work 6 months a year? Most Americans dream, as long as we can make enough to survive the other 6 months

| Re: NEW owner of our FIRST trailer | Congrats on the new TT, I turn on the fridge about 3 days before leaving home, that gives it time to get cold, & time to pack it. Before you leave, make sure the fridge is set to "Auto" & the propane is on & air is purged from the lines, that way the fridge will automatically switch to propane when you unplug at home, & back to electric when you plug in at the Campground. Yes, make sure the battery(s) is fully charged before leaving, you may also want to make sure the fresh water tank is full, depending on where you are camping, if you are going to a campground with hookups, you really don't need to fill it till you get there.

| Re: Gas prices changing from state to state | angela wrote We recently took a trip and I have to say, I'm amazed on how much the gas prices jumps the moment that you cross the border of one state and go into another. We decided to fuel up in SC and it was about $4.24 for diesel but when we crossed into NC, we were shocked that it was just $3.65. And they are just right beside each other! Anyone can shed some light on this? Between states is no big surprise, it varies greatly within a state, near my house, regular gas is $3.55, on I-81 anywhere near Roanoke, it runs from $3.23- $3.37. Around Richmond, it varies from one side of town to another.

| Re: Too much of a handful? | It can be done, but Dad has to be a huge help to Mom, especially with the twins, as Mom will have her hands full of new baby. I'm not really sure who's going to have time enough to enjoy the trip.

| Re: Is it really cheaper to live off your RV? | 1. NO taxes 2.. Unless you're paying by the month, theres no electric bill 3. If it gets to cold where you are, move 4. If you are set up for boondocking & enjoy it, you can usually find free places to stay. 5. generally no HOA's, just abide by the CG rules
I would do it, but my wife is against selling the stick & brick, she wants somewhere to come back to.
