| Camping on the Kern River |
I have been camping along the upper and lower Kern River for about the last 20 years, and I have seen a lot of change for these old campgrounds. So that gives me the right to give and honest respectable opinion.
See my good and bad listed below.
*****************Does not include private owned camp grounds*******************
The good:
1. Fantastic locations with easy access.
2. Next to the Kern River.
3. River rafting high flow, tubing at low flow.
4. Lots of shade for those hot summer months.
5. Mostly tent camping, very few RVs unless down by Lake Isabella.
6. Small towns close by for supplies.
7. Nice locals, good local police force.
********
The bad
1. Overcrowding with adults and children not being enforced by camp host.
2. Loud music before and after curfew.
3. The site next to you has no shade or is too small so the large group that moves in next to you starts crowding you like wolves, giving dirty looks, playing loud music or music nobody else likes, and I don't mean country or rock or rap music. Sitting stuff on your autos, stealing your firewood or anything else that's not nailed down, dogs running loose, walking through your site at all hours..
4. Over priced, $20.00 a night for no showers or flush toilets, should be $8.00 max.
5. Show up early to camp and there's empty tents there first with no one around for days just to grab the site for the weekend.
6. During the summer high water flow
We stayed here in a Tent.
