| Beautiful Spot by the River |
Between Ellensburg and Yakima on the Canyon Rd (our preferred route) we passed Big Pine, it's about halfway between both towns. Needed to get some propane in town but after seeing what a great spot this was decided to double back to stay the night. Spots that back up to the river are shaded most of the day, we stayed on a Monday so were still able to get a shady spot around 3:00 PM. Of the four BLM sites on this drive, this has the most developed campsites and seems to be the nicest. The rest of the 30+spots are in the open. Had nice toilet facilities, but no showers. Spots were large and paved, with table and fire pits.
There is a nice boat launch area and it seemed like there was a lot of river activity. The only downside to the campground was there is a train track across the river. While we were there the train went by twice, once about 4:00 PM and then again past midnight, not a big deal since things were quiet and peaceful and went right back to sleep. Rate was $15, but if you had a senior pass you get 50% off. If we're in the area again we will be staying at Big Pine
We stayed here in a Class B Motorhome.
