With Halloween quickly approaching haunted houses are gearing up for another season of scares. From horror movies to roller coasters, it's a fact many people enjoy the rush of adrenaline fear provides. There's no better time to get scared out of your mind than October. This month events are popping up across the country to satisfy the need to be frightened. There's bound to be an attraction near you; whether it's a haunted hayride, corn maze, haunted house or ghost tour. We've come up with a list of the most terrifying haunted houses across the US.

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA

At Haunted Hayride takes place at the Old Zoo, which was built on unholy land. Attractions include a haunted hayride through the woods, a haunted carnival and haunted hay maze. Group discounts are available for groups of 20 or more. A private hayride wagon holding up to 30 people is also available.

Open: October 3rd to 31st, Thursday to Sunday.
Cost: General admission $30. $42 for All-Attraction Pass. VIP Tickets $58. Save money by purchasing advanced tickets online. Discounted 20+ group tickets available.

DENVER, COLORADO

At The 13th Door you make your way through a hotel that's haunted by guests who were burned alive. Visitors tour the hotel's various haunted rooms and eventually make it to the 13th door. The Hollywood-quality makeup and special effects helps scare people but it's truly the actors at The 13th Door who make it the best haunt in Denver. VIP tickets are available for $10 extra, allowing you to skip the line. You can also buy tickets to affiliated haunted houses: Curse of Slaughterhouse Gulch AND and The Black Hole here for only $25.

Open: October 3rd through November 1st.
Cost: $25 gets you a ticket to the 13th Door plus free admission to Curse of Slaughterhouse Gulch and the Black Hole if you buy your tickets online. $25 at each house if you buy your tickets at the gate. There's a discount of $1 if you donate a can of food.

ANDERSON, INDIANA

Indy Scream Park is located minutes away from Indianapolis. The ScreamPark is a collaboration between the best industry magazine (Haunted Attraction Magazine) and the number one haunted house website (HauntedHouse.com). Five attractions make this park an excellent place to spend the day. One ticket gets you access to all five attractions which include; Nachtmahr, Kurayami, Dark Harvest, Backwoods, Monster Midway and Bedlam 3D. They have incorporated state of the art animatronics and computer generated images to work with their actors to create the most terrifying experience possible.

Open: September 26th and 27th Thursday through Sunday and some Wednesdays from October 3rd to November 2nd. Open from 7pm to Midnight on Fridays & Saturdays. Last ticket sold at 11:30pm. Open from 7pm to 10pm on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. Last ticket sold at 9:30pm.
Cost: $22-$32 general admission, VIP Fast Pass tickets are $31-$49. Buy online and get a discount on all tickets.

HIGH POINT, NORTH CAROLINA

Spookywoods was named among the Top 13 haunted houses in America by USA Today; they've also been featured on the Travel Channel more than once. Attractions include a Halloween zip-line over Spookywoods, a dark terror tram ride, a haunted cornfield and the Spookywoods maze.

Open: September 26-27, October 3 to November 1, November 7 and 8.
Cost: $25 general admission. VIP Fast Pass costs $40. They also offer private exclusive access.

AUSTIN, TEXAS

The House of Torment is hands-down the best haunted house in Texas. They spend the entire year perfecting every aspect from sets and costumes to the plot, which gets updated every year. There are three main events, The House of Torment, Cursed and The Reckoning - all of which are equally frightening.

Open: September 19-20, September 26-28, October 3 to November 2, November 7-9.
Cost: $24.99-$28.99 for general admission. Add $9.99 for fast pass or $19.99 for immediate access.
