The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta is the world's largest hot air balloon convention and, undisputedly, the most photographed event on earth. The Balloon Fiesta had its modest beginnings in 1972 when 13 balloons launched from a shopping mall parking lot to celebrate the 50th anniversary of local radio station KOB. In three decades the event has grown into a nine-day extravaganza.

Bryce Canyon National Park has some of the Earth's most colorful rocks that have been sculpted by erosion into pillars called "hoodoos." Water has helped carve Bryce's rugged landscape for millions of years and is still at work. Bryce is not a true canyon but a series of horse shaped amphitheaters; the largest and most striking is Bryce Amphitheater at the heart of the park.
