This lake is, I believe, the highest drive-in camp/lake in California. It's right at 10,000 ft. elevation off Tioga Pass.
There are several campsites and a store that has great breakfasts to enjoy. There also is a "ferry" that will take you across the lake to the other side where there are seven alpine ponds that are well worth hiking around and fishing for trout.
Bring warm clothes -- yes, even in summer. It gets quite cold and the wind picks up quite a lot in the afternoon.
The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that because it's easy to get to, the area around the store, etc. can get crowded in the day.
Lots of bears. Bring bear containers, especially if you camp near the alpine lakes. FYI!
But it is just one of the most beautiful areas you'll experience!
