This park has about 6 miles of hiking & biking trails, but there has been some damage done by recent floods and the walk-in campground, visitor's center, and Rock Shelter trail are closed as a result. Some roads are narrow and some sites are not level. There are lots of birds singing, but unfortunately you also hear noise from the nearby vehicular and aircraft traffic. There is supposed to be wi-fi at headquarters, but we got no signal at our nearby campsite. The falls are scenic and are worth checking out.

| Extremely nice campground | |
Campground was very spacious. Lots of room between sites. Nice trails for walking or biking. Staff is cordial. Out of staters beware of the extra charges of $5 per person or $70 for an annual pass in addition to the camping fee. Really close to the city of Austin.

| A great getaway so close to Austin | |
This state park is so peaceful and secluded that it's almost hard to believe that it's so close to downtown Austin and all the popular sights. It's right by the river and has really nice and roomy sites with water and electric hookups. No cable, but that's to be expected. There's wi-fi at the office, though. Would have been so great if the place had sewer hookups too, but we can't have it all now, can we? There are also excellent hiking and biking trails in the area. We loved it here and we'll return.

| McKinney Falls tent camping or day play | |
I have camped at McKinney Falls and decided I wont go back. Now this is only my experience so I do actually recommend going to see it for yourself because you may really enjoy your trip.
They really enforce the rules here and have a park ranger come check up periodically. My dog was restricted to being tied up which just makes her bark. The grounds are beautiful but you can't really just pop your tent up anywhere, the spots designated for primitive camping are all crammed together in a row. (No privacy, so I hope you like your neighbor! Then to get to the water you'll have to walk for a long time, away from your site. I have gotten poison ivy from every visit. If there is water flowing at all then sometimes it seems worth it though. | | Comments (0) |
