Local Directions: Primary routes for getting to Wilmington are I-40 East and US17 North or South. There are ample signs in Wilmington for Ft Fisher and are easy to follow. They actually refer to the Ft Fisher State Park but the Ft Fisher AF Recreation area is on the same route and about 2 miles up from the State Park. The route through Wilmington is straight through to Carolina Beach, then Kure Beach. Ft Fisher AF Recreation Area is in the Kure Beach community. Once on-site, continue straight in past the flag pole, around a slight curve and then you will see a directional sign pointing the way to our Reception Center.

Great Fam Camp close to the beach

We took our 2 granddaughters here to go to the beach. The waves were so big that they were afraid to go into the water. As a child we went to Carolina Beach and Wilmington. Where the USS North Carolina Battleship is now there were hundreds of Victory Ships from World War II awaiting the scrap heap. They are no longer there. So it was a trip down memory lane.

We stayed here in a Travel Trailer.
